The first Monday in May: Best dressed at the 2023 Met Gala

It’s the first Monday in May which means it’s time to suspend any touch with reality I may have left and judge rich celebrities for their clothing.

I have always loved runway fashion and a guilty pleasure of mine has always been watching red carpets before award shows or looking through the latest season of fashion looks from the various fashion weeks around the world in eager anticipation of the day I get my invite in the mail.

It is an opportunity to act like I am a fashion critic while sitting in my bed wearing basketball shorts and a baggy t-shirt with no bra, because I, of course, would make better fashion choices than any of them if given the opportunity.

So, without further ado, here is my list of best and … not so best dressed at this year’s Met Gala.

Best Dressed

  1. Rihanna

Honestly, no notes needed for the queen of the Met Gala. Rihanna always knows a theme and dresses the part—guaranteeing to shut the entire thing down. This iconic Valentino number paid homage to Karl Lagerfeld (who was a terrible human, I must note before continuing my descent into delusion), while also, in the words of Riri herself, looking “expensive.” 5 stars. A$AP Rocky was also there.

2. Anne Hathaway

I love me an unproblematic white woman! Anne Hathway, the Princess of Genovia, is always dressed impeccably any time she steps out and this was no different. Anne wore Versace and stepped out with Donatella herself and every single detail of her look was chef’s kiss.

3. Sora Choi

Everything about this is yes. Sora Choi in Thom Browne absolutely ate the red carpet up and I love that she knows it.

4. Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa in Chanel Couture with an iced out Tiffany necklace—perfection. I love when all the elements of a look come together like this.

5. Cardi B

Cardi is really stepping into her fashion icon era and I love to see it. I really loved this look on her and it gave vintage vibes while looking classy and effortless at the same time, but most importantly was on theme in Chenpeng Studio.

6. Jessica Chastain

The blonde hair, the custom Gucci black dress, the sunglasses, all of it, a serve.

7. Lady Gaga

Absolutely loved Gaga in this custom Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld. She wears “extra” so well and this look honestly is up there with one of my favourites of hers ever.

8. Halley Bailey

Nothing but respect for MY Little Mermaid. Halle stuck to the theme while also having the shimmer that was reminiscent of an underwater mermaid’s tail and I just loved everything about this custom Gucci look.

9. Michaela Coel

Custom Schiaparelli. 130,000 crystals. IMMACULATE.

10. Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer looked incredible in Sergio Hudson, and everything about the look from the hair to the cape to the texture of the dress gave me classic Hollywood in the best way possible.

Dishonourable mention (in no particular order)

Okay and here are the looks that could not serve even if they were given a tray.

(I’m kidding they all looked beautiful but could have picked better dresses okay sorry thanks)

Emily Blunt

I love me some Emily Blunt but to be her last name—this outfit is awful.

JLo

Girl, sometimes I almost want to tell you to put the green dress back on. This could have been beautiful. I love the back of the dress and I like the fascinator but something about the front just… doesn’t sit right with me.

Kerry Washington

I am and always will be an Olivia Pope stan but everything about this is just a half-serve in all of the worst ways.

Vanessa Hudgens

I usually love Vanessa Hudgens’ red carpet looks but this just felt underwhelming for her and although it wasn’t terrible I simply wanted more.

Florence Pugh

I’m sorry, Florence, I think you’re lovely but this dress was simply not it. The headpiece could have worked but I just don’t see it with this dress. You tried.

Kylie Jenner

Beautiful, but blah. The cape was a serve but once she took it off it wasn’t doing much for me. The Met Gala is for fash-un, not just looking pretty in a dress.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall I just wanted so much more from you. The top half of the outfit is on theme but I just wish there was more going on on the bottom that wasn’t the boots. Sorry girl.

Okay anyways, that's all from me, it's time I lay out my athleisure outfit for tomorrow.

Until next year!

I have seen some beautiful dress here but it will be more useful for me if you share some ways to get the custom dress shirts for men also. As, it's all about the women you have shared above so add some designer suits for men also.
